3D Mouse Trouble

On July 13, I blogged about the unfortunate discontinuation of the 3D mouse support in Second Life. Last Wednesday, I had the opportunity to bring this to Oz's and Rider Linden's attention.

For those who don't know. In Second Life, Linden is the last name for people working for Linden Lab; the company that created Second Life.

I'm sorry to say, I was presented with the same options I've had since I discovered the lack of support for 3D mice in the SL Viewer:

Use an Old 3D Mouse Driver

Using 3DxWare 10 for OS X version 10.1.2, I would be able to control my avatar and camera with the controller cap of my SpaceMouse Pro, but I would still miss the use of the other buttons, and I would have to revert back to a mouse I'd rather not use.

Use the Latest 3D Mouse Driver

Using the latest version of 3DxWare 10 for macOS, I would not be able to use my SpaceMouse Pro at all, but I would be able to use the CadMouse.

Neither of these options would bring us back to the situation we had before the unfortunate removal of the support for 3D mice from the SL Viewer. The only solution appears to be for Linden Lab to restore that support. Unless a different solution can be found before next Wednesday, I do hope that I'll be able to persuade Linden Lab of this. The alternative is to never again be able to experience the intuitive control that only 3Dconnexion's 3D mice can offer; something I do not look forward to.

It's been suggested that I try the Cool VL Viewer and the Black Dragon Viewer. There are three macOS versions of the Cool VL Viewer, but the links I found are from 2009, and they don't work. I feel safe in saying that it's been deserted. The Black Dragon Viewer has only been made for Windows, so that doesn't help the situation either. Thanks for trying, friends.

As always, I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post. If you have any questions or comments, then please let me know in the form down below.
