Don't be Afraid of Twitch

A few days ago I started streaming on Twitch. This may raise some concerns in the people closest to me. In this blog post I hope to address all of those concerns. I'm going to do this so that you only need to read as much as you would like to.

I'll begin with the question, after which I'll give you a quick answer, and then an explanation.

One last thing before I go onto the questions. I respect your wish for privacy. You will only ever be seen or heard on my Twitch channel if you expressly allow it.

Here goes!

Questions and Answers

Question: I see the light on one of your microphones is on. Does that mean that I can be heard on Twitch?

Answer: No.

Explanation: The light on the microphone on my desk will go on as soon as the computer it's connected to is switched on, even if the input is not processed by any software.

Question: I see the light on your webcam is on. Does that mean that I can be heard or seen on Twitch?

Answer: No.

Explanation: The light on the webcam will go on whenever I open software that can process the input from my webcam. OBS Studio does receive the input from my webcam, but it will only send to Twitch what I tell it to send.

Question: Whenever you're wearing your headset, does someone in your room need to raise their voice for you to be able to understand them?

Answer: No.

Explanation: My headset does not close my ears off to sounds from outside of it. Also, I never raise the volume all that high.

I do hope this blog post was clear and that it has taken care of any concern that you may have felt, because I would be sorry if you would feel uncomfortable in my room.
